A Revolution in Flexibility: How the eviXscan 3D Quadro+ is Changing the Game in 3D Metrology

The modern industrial metrology sector faces a persistent challenge: reconciling the need for micron-level precision with the demand for scanning objects of vastly different sizes. Traditionally, a Quality Control (QC) department had to choose between a scanner optimized for small, intricate details and a device designed for the rapid measurement of large components. The eviXscan 3D Quadro+ redefines this paradigm by offering two independent scanning systems within a single housing, marking a breakthrough in measurement automation and versatility.

The Core of the Innovation: The Quadro+ Dual Scanning System

The key innovation of the Quadro+ scanner lies in its unique optical design. Instead of a single system that would require manual lens changes or reconfiguration to alter the measurement field, the Quadro+ (as its name implies) utilizes four metrology-grade cameras and a single structured-light projector.

These four cameras are arranged into two independent pairs:

  1. The Inner System (Narrow Field of View): Two high-resolution cameras are positioned close together. This configuration creates a narrow but dense measurement volume. It is ideal for capturing the finest details, such as turbine blade edges, micro-connectors, or the complex textures of injection molds. This setup ensures maximum point density and the highest accuracy on small areas.
  2. The Outer System (Wide Field of View): The other two cameras are mounted further apart. This creates a much larger triangulation baseline (stereo vision), resulting in a wide field of view. This system is optimized for rapidly scanning large surfaces, such as castings, car body panels, or welded structures.

Most importantly for the metrologist, switching between these two systems is entirely software-driven. There is no need for physical intervention, process interruption, or recalibration. The software simply activates the relevant camera pair, instantly changing the scanning range.

Versatility That Saves Time and Resources

This dual functionality translates directly into more efficient QC processes. Imagine measuring a complex component that features both large, general surfaces and small, critical areas (e.g., mounting sockets or threaded holes).

Instead of using two different scanners or performing a time-consuming reconfiguration, an operator (or robotic arm) can program the process as follows:

  • Step 1: The scanner, in its wide (outer) mode, quickly captures the object’s overall geometry in just a few shots.
  • Step 2: The software automatically switches to the narrow (inner) mode.
  • Step 3: The scanner focuses exclusively on the critical areas, increasing the point cloud density precisely where the highest precision is required, without wasting time rescanning the entire object.

The result is a single, coherent 3D model (point cloud or mesh) with optimized resolution – high where necessary, and standard elsewhere. It effectively consolidates two specialized scanners into one unified system.

Automation and Accuracy: The Pillars of Modern Metrology

The versatility of the Quadro+ truly shines in automated environments. The scanner is designed for seamless integration with rotary tables and collaborative robots (cobots).

In an automated measurement cell, a robotic arm can manipulate the scanner, utilizing both of its ranges within a single, continuous measurement program. This capability turns the Quadro+ into an autonomous CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) solution, capable of performing 100% automated inspections.

From a metrology standpoint, accuracy is paramount. The Quadro+ uses blue LED structured light technology, which is highly resistant to the ambient light interference common on production floors. High-resolution cameras (e.g., 8.9 Mpix or 12 Mpix, depending on the variant), combined with a thermally stable carbon-fiber housing, ensure metrology-grade repeatability and accuracy, certified according to VDI/VDE 2634 standards.

The eviXscan 3D Quadro+ is not just another iteration of a 3D scanner; it is a strategic tool for modern metrology. By offering two integrated, software-switchable measurement ranges, it eliminates the compromise between detail accuracy and large-volume measurement speed. For the metrology industry, this means faster automation, lower investment costs (one scanner instead of two), and unprecedented flexibility to adapt to nearly any measurement task – all without sacrificing the micron-level precision that defines quality control.
