Customized 3D scanning systems

Solutions developed to meet specific customer requirements
to improve the quality control process

Special systems for Industry 4.0

Tailored solutions developed to fulfill very specific customer requirements, for which standard measurement and scanning methods cannot be successfully applied, or the existing solutions are expensive or inefficient.

The current needs of manufacturing companies are particularly related to the increase of production efficiency and precise quality control of products. The concept of Industry 4.0 responds to such needs and tries to encompass all production aspects of the enterprise into one cooperative organism. Such a cooperative infrastructure is underlined by the integration of automated, artificial intelligence-based machines and systems as well as the capability of rapid introduction of modifications in production processes. In this context, quality control systems based on precise 3D scanning, gain in its importance.

During designing of the dedicated solution, the client's quality requirements (precision, time of processing, dimensional assessment etc.) and specific working conditions (variable temperature, humidity, light; pollination effect, vibrance etc.) are taken into account. They are also adapted in such a way that the entire 3D scanning system works tightly together with other segments of the production line or is directly integrated with them.

One of the offered solutions are multi-scanner systems, i.e. scanning systems using at least two collaborating eviXscan 3D scanners in one measuring platform, able to scan the object in sequential mode and merge results obtained from each individual scan.

Idea of special systems

Innovative multi-scanner systems

One of the offered solutions are multi-scanner systems, i.e. scanning systems using at least two collaborating eviXscan 3D scanners in one measuring platform, able to scan the object in sequential mode and merge results obtained from each individual scan.

In every solution individual features such as measuring cubature, properly selected optics resolution, and the accuracy as well as system sampling density can be adapted to achieve the most optimal results. The measurement functionalities of such a system can be even more are augmented by the use of a contact optical probe, which placed in the field of view of the scanners gives the possibility to measure hard-to-reach areas. The information from the probe measurement is fully integrated with the object shape scan.

In systems cooperating directly with other segments of production line, the scan cycle time needs to be optimized to fit into the time-window available for measurement and decision making process regarding the quality of the measured object. Such a system and decision process can be fully automated or limited to a minimal manual interaction, by which its becoming user-friendly and doesn’t require high competences to operate.

The multi-scanner systems basically allow measurements based on a comparison of the scanned shape instance with its reference model most often in the form of a CAD design. They provide the possibility of OK/NOK control, but also allow to perform and archive all required measurements on the acquired data, together with an automatic generation of quality inspection reports for each controlled item for full traceability.

Special system proposal for the Customer 1

The basic assumption was to automatically scan cylindrical objects from 50-150 cm from one position.

Additional assumptions:

automatic generation of reports,
data archiving,
OK/NOK identification,
providing objects to be measured with a crane,
point measurements of internal diameters of the object, wall thickness.

It was very important for our client that the system could be operated by both qualified and unqualified employees.

The special system developed by Evatronix includes:

scanning system enclosed in a kiosk structure,
rotary table controlled by the system,
measuring probes (3 types of length),
Geomagic Control X software - processing of data received from the scanner.

The measurements and results obtained at the input are: a 3D scan, a 3D CAD model and a template for the quality control report. Output: a PDF report, CSV file and OK /NOK archive.

For components with a complex structure a measuring probe is provided. Its main task is to measure the diameter of the hole inside the objects, measure the wall thickness of the object (integration of information from the probe measurement with the object shape scan) and check the alignment of the hole.

The probe developed by our engineers works on the length of the mandrel:

9 cm - accuracy 0.15 mm,
40 cm - accuracy 0.37 mm,
70 cm - accuracy 0.45 mm.

Special system proposal for the customer 2

In this case, our main goal was to develop a system that would enable double-sided scanning of plates already on the production line. The scanning concerned the measurement of flatness and parallelism and the required accuracy of 0.05 mm. Triggering and identification of objects was done with a barcode scanner - selection of the scanning scenario and report depending on the type of object. An important factor is the automatic generation of reports and their archiving in one place, as well as OK/NOK control and cooperation with the line through PLCs. The whole cycle process takes less than 30 seconds and can be operated by an unskilled employee.

The special system developed by us includes:

two scanners operating sequentially,
calibrated artifact in the working field of both scanners,
Geomagic Control X software - batch processing of data received from the scanner.

Measurements and results obtained at the input, as in the example described above, are 3D scan, 3D CAD model and quality control report template. The output is a PDF report, CSV file and OK /NOK archive.

Multi-scanner system functionality enables measurements comparing the scanned shape with a model object, usually in the form of a CAD file. Thanks to this not only is it possible to control OK/NOK, but also to archive measurement data with advanced reports for each controlled object.

Processing data received from scanners with Geomagic Control X or PolyWorks Inspector software allows to generate reports and measurement statistics. This gives you possibilities similar to the so-called virtual CMM.

Thanks to the use of structural light technology, it is possible to repeat measurements of the scanned object and obtain high quality of its mapping.

The advantage of special systems is providing a large amount of precise data in a very short time, which allows for parallel scanning and report generation. This shortens the cycle time.
